This is from Mark Hart’s book A Second Look: Encountering the True Jesus
This quote hit me hard. It made me look at prayer in a whole new way. Which means it made me look at my relationship with God in a whole new way. And, I didn’t like what I was looking at.
I know my relationship with God needs work. But before, I always thought we had a good thing going. We were friends, He is my heavenly Father, and there wasn’t much I wouldn’t talk to Him about. But this made me realize that if I talked to a close friend, or my dad, with the same apathy or indifference, that relationship would be quite bland and sporadic (note to self: spend some more time with my close friends and my dad).
Looking at my relationship with God through the lens of my prayer life, God gets ignored and pushed aside. A lot. Way more than I’d like to admit. And this after I’ve increased my prayer life significantly. Looks like I’ve got a long way to go.
If you haven’t ever read anything by Mark Hart, I highly recommend it. He’s entertaining, engaging, and holy.
