Just Keep Praying

I find it harder and harder to believe there are coincidences.

The other day I was praying, and, as so often happens in prayer, I remember how much Jesus has done for me. Not only that God created me, but that Jesus died on the cross for me, and continues to want to help me, every moment of every day. I also remembered, as I often do, how much more I could and should do to show my thanks.

And that’s why, not only in last Sunday’s Gospel, but in Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, we are taught to pray always:

Pray without ceasing

1 Thess 5:17

When we pray (and I don’t mean just asking for things), it is so much easier to remember everything Jesus has done. When we pray, it is so much easier to remember everything we should be doing for Jesus.
But when we don’t pray, it is so much easier to forget everything Jesus has done. When we don’t pray, it is so much easier to forget everything we should be doing for Jesus.

The more often our minds are on God, the better chance we have of being kind, responding with compassion, seeing Christ in others, and being more grateful for the blessings we have, instead of desiring the things we don’t have. Prayer doesn’t have to be sitting and doing rosaries all day long, but just being more mindful of God’s presence all day long.
