The Inception of Joseph

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 21 Second

Yesterday was the Solemnity of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the Gospel (Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a), an angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream.

And it happens again not too long after (barely a chapter later!) – in 2:13-15, an angel (of the Lord) appears to Joseph in a dream.

But why I’m writing is because this happened before.

Remember?

Joseph.
Dreams.
. . .
An amazing technicolor dreamcoat.

In Genesis, we find a Joseph having dreams that are important (and interpreting the dreams of others).

Is this Joseph a precursor or foreshadowing of Jesus’ dad?

Oh, did I mention that Joseph’s dad’s name is Jacob? Which one you ask? Both. Yeah.

I have no idea if this is important or not, or what it’s supposed to mean if anything. It just popped in my head at Mass yesterday and I’m wondering about it now. I know that Joseph the dreamer has a lot of connections to Jesus, but the fact that there are two Josephs with dads named Jacob, and that dreams are big part of their lives seems to more than a coincidence. And yes, dreams were a big part of Joseph of Nazareth’s life – as far as Scripture is concerned, we only hear about Joseph a handful of times, and two of those times were the two biggest decisions Joseph made to protect his family – and they happened because of dreams.

However, if anyone knows this to be heretical or blasphemous, or just plain wrong, let me know. I’ve been wrong before, can’t expect it won’t happen again.
